3rd Sunday after Epiphany
Mark 1:14-20

On this day when we honor the legacy and life-long mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. I share this post. While I put it together in June 2020 after the death of George Floyd, it seems even more timely in the aftermath of the attack on our nation’s capitol earlier this month.

This is a video created with the first part of a sermon I gave in August of 2018 at Church of the Servant. In it I shared written reflections from a year earlier, after the Charlottesville White Supremacist’s marches and counter-protests.

It conveys the effort needed by me and other white people to do the work required from each of us to end racism. And while in this 2018 reflection I used the term “people of color,” I realize more fully now the importance of saying Black lives. They matter. What’s more, the listening, learning, and re-forming of White lives is as necessary as ever, and the only way we will overcome the pandemic of racism.
